Are Stink Bugs Poisonous?
The short answer to the question “Are Stink Bugs Poisonous” is, simply, No.
As much as the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is a nuisance in our homes and gardens, it is not a known killer!
Are Stink Bugs Poisonous to Humans?
While the smell that gives these little buggers their name is annoying and disgusting to some, it is unlikely to hurt you. This smell, however, is emitted from the bugs in a form of a spray. Should you be unlucky enough to get this spray in your eyes, it may sting or burn. We suggest not putting yourself in the position where a stink bug could spray you in the eyes!
Are Stink Bugs Poisonous to Pets?
Let’s face it, these hap-hazardly flying stinkers could be very attractive to a curious cat! And while we know the saying about curious cats, in this case they should come out ok!
The spray in the eye could be a factor for your furry friends, but shouldn’t bother them too much. The bigger concern is eating the stink bugs. Not highly recommended, but I’m sure your dog has tasted worse! The secretions from the stink bug could cause your pet to drool excessively, or even vomit. While the bug may be a little tough on your pet’s digestion, the irritation should pass shortly and be no cause for major alarm.
That being said, while it may be amusing to watch your kitten chase stink bugs around the house, save the little pet some potential discomfort and discourage the stink bug hunting!
Leave the Stink Bug hunting to the pros!
